LA 1 - Elements - Intro to Language Arts (4th & 5th) Instructor: Angela Broyles Day/Time: Tuesday 8:30-10:25 This class will serve as an intro to Language Arts providing a foundation to those students who are new to grammar, chapter books and writing. Students who may not be ready for LA 2 and MCT curriculum will enjoy this class with hands-on and out of the box learning to include grammar, vocabulary, literature, poetry and composition using Total Language Plus study guides as a spine to study Language Arts in a new and fun way. LA 2 - MCT Essentials (5th & 6th) Instructor: Phyllis Broadus Day/Time: Tuesday 8:30-10:25 This class lays the foundation of the MCT program. Students will delve into literature study, writing structure with a strong grammar and vocabulary emphasis. Students will read and study 3 literature pieces and will begin to understand sentence and paragraph structure, parts of speech, parts of sentences and composition. SOCIAL SCIENCE 4th-6th History Instructor: Christy Gatti Day/Time: Thursday 8:30-10:25 It's Election Year and we are taking advantage of this learning opportunity for our students. This year we will be studying civics and government using Notgrass's Uncle Sam and You curriculum. Uncle Sam and You is a one-year civics and government course for students in grades 5-8. Daily lessons teach your child about the foundations of American government, the elections process, and how Federal, state, and local governments work. We even hope to hold a mock election for students! |
SCIENCE
4th-6th Science Instructor: Juliana Kyzar Day/Time: Thursday 10:30-12:25 Students will be studying Chemistry in the Fall and Biology in the Spring. We will give students tools in science to better equip them for higher levels of science later. This is an extremely hands on-class with 10 labs/experiments each semester. Even though the purpose of this class is introduction and not mastery, the scientific method is highly emphasized along with proper scientific language and terminology. FINE ARTS Elementary Art (8yo+) Instructor: Angela Broyles Day/Time: Tuesday 10:30-12:25 This class will study the various techniques from different time periods starting with cave paintings and moving onward. Students will have practice replicating famous artists' work as well as doing their own interpretation of the various styles of art. There are valuable lessons to be learned within each time period that will be emphasized. They will be exposed to different mediums, both two-dimensional and three dimensional.
